My Story
Dr. Hawkins is a hematopathologist who practices all aspects of Anatomic Pathology and Clinical pathology. She recently moved from Huntington WV, where she was an Assistant Professor at Marshall University School of Medicine and served as Laboratory Director at St. Mary’s Medical Center Ironton Campus. At Marshall University, she was awarded the “Excellence through Diversity Award” in 2020.
Dr. Hawkins received the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a clinical Traditional Rotating internship at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. She attended the Drexel University College of Medicine/Hahnemann University Hospital combined Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology residency training program. In her final post graduate training year, she served as Chief Resident and was bestowed the “Hahnemann University Hospital Service Excellence in Clinical Practice – Resident of the Year Award” and named to the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) 40 Under 40 Program “Honoree List”. She completed a clinical fellowship in Hematopathology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Prior to medical school, she served four years of active duty in the US Army as a Medical Specialist Sergeant and received numerous awards during her tenure, including the prestigious Army Commendation Medal. Dr. Hawkins is actively involved in organized pathology and has served on a number of national committees to include member and secretary of the ASCP Resident Council, member of the ASCP Resident Representative Network and junior member of the Reproductive Medicine Resource Committee for the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Currently she is a member of the CAP Diagnostic Immunology and Flow Cytometry Committee.
